Adesewa Josh

International Broadcast Journalist, Conference Speaker. Founder, Project Smile Africa
Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism Istanbul, Turkey

For the last 7 years I’ve told hundreds of community stories in Africa. I bring the right nuances and perspectives to African stories in international newsrooms. International reporting requires me to do more with less, taking up news presenting, reporting, writing, editing, blogging, videography, live hits, and producing. I’ve filed stories for print, broadcast and social media. My work life has been defined by deadlines. I’m a critical thinker, asking why and why not, looking at multiple perspectives, digging beneath the surface, challenging conventional wisdom, discerning patterns, and finding context.

I founded Project Smile Africa in 2013 to address some of the issues I’ve reported on over the years.

I won the Xceptional Women in Media Awards in 2014 for my reporting on community development issues in Africa. I am a nominee of the Future Awards Africa 2017. I am an African beyond the borders.

Adesewa has reported on major international events like the Historic US-Africa Leaders’ Summit at the White House in Washington DC and The George W. Bush African First Ladies conference in Dareesalam Tanzania.

In 2015, Adesewa Josh was assigned to the United Nations headquarters in New York to report on Nigeria’s rotational presidency at the Security Council where she deeply analyzed the resolutions of the council and how it affects the nation and continent.

Adesewa holds a certificate in TV presenting from UK’s Aspire Presenting Institute. She trained as a producer with the BBC. She recently received the prestigious Women Making a Difference Award for her distinguished strides in the media and community service. She is a member of the Young African Leader Initiative Network (YALI), Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJ) and an Associate fellow of the Nigerian Leadership Initiative.
